How to reactivate Dewan Eja spelling and grammar checker in MS Word

Dewan Eja spelling and grammar checker will be automatically activated after successful installation. However, these settings might be changed after Windows or MS Office updates.

Sometimes, Dewan Eja spelling and grammar checker might not be functioning in a pre-existing document because of such changes in settings.

SCENARIO 1

Dewan Eja is not working in Malay documents only

Indicator

Red curly line (spelling error indicator) or blue curly line (grammatical error indicator) is not visible if the document is set to Malay, but visible if the document is set to English.

Solution

  1. In MS Word, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
  2. At the bottom (Managed), click on the drop-down menu and select Disabled Items. Click Go.
  3. Inside the Disabled Items dialog box, you should see an Addin item named “speller ms-my” (refer to the image below). Select the item, and click Enable. Close the Disabled Items dialog box.
  4. Return to your MS Word document and recheck the document in Malay language.

SCENARIO 2

Dewan Eja is not working in a pre-existing document, but works well in a new document

Indicator

Red curly line (spelling error indicator) or blue curly line (grammatical error indicator) is not visible in a pre-existing document only.

Solution

  1. In MS Word, go to File > Options > Proofing.
  2. Under the Exceptions for section, make sure both checkboxes for Hide spelling errors and Hide grammar errors are unchecked.
  3. Return to your MS Word document and recheck the document in Malay language.

SCENARIO 3

Dewan Eja Tool Bar disappears from the Add-ins ribbon

Solution

  1. In MS Word, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
  2. At the bottom (Managed), click on the drop-down menu and select COM Add-ins. Click Go.

3. Inside the COM Add-ins dialog box, make sure both Dewan Eja 10 (Penyemak Ejaan) and Dewan Eja 10
(Terjemahan)
are checked. Click the OK button.

4. Return to your MS Word document and the Dewan Eja toolbar should re-appear in the Add-ins ribbon.

5. If Dewan Eja toolbar still not appear in the Add-ins ribbon, please run “Baiki Dewan Eja Pro 10”. In the Windows search box, type “Baiki Dewan Eja Pro” and click on the suggested apps. Please make sure to close your MS Office application, e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint before run “Baiki Dewan Eja Pro 10”.

6. Open MS Word document and check the Add-ins ribbon.
